Pathway is built from a welded steel frame, hovering over the wall space to allow lighting to show through the frame. Pathway conveys the safe boundaries we build for ourselves through plans, narratives, and rules that make up our daily living. The diagonal line represents change from an outside source, illuminating a new pathway.
We all create safe boundaries for ourselves, through our understanding what we believe truth to be, through narratives about our choices and why we make the decisions we do, and justification for the life we live. Pathway shows the diagonal intersection of an outside influence challenging the boundaries we construct, and inviting us to a more meaningful life. The illumination on the diagonal piece represents the pathway bringing new life and animated color to our otherwise stale and predictable way of living.
Sit with the piece and let it turn into a question. If a new path was illuminated to you, that went outside of your conventional limitations, would you take it? What if the path came from a higher source? What if it came from God? In John 8:12 Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” What if you put your plans on pause, and let go of the boundary that says God is folklore and myth, or uninterested in you. What if you invited God to illuminate a new pathway for you?
