This page serves as both a personal testimony and a deeper look into the concepts behind my work. John 8:12 in the New Testament speaks about a remedy for those who “walk in darkness,” and the idea that a path exists to help us if we are willing to receive it. All of us experience forms of darkness, usually unique to who we are and our own set of circmustances.
While modern religious culture often associates darkness with moral failure or sin, it can also describe anxiety, depression, confusion, grief, mental or emotional sickness, or difficult seasons that leave us drained. From that place, the world offers endless solutions: therapy, medication, workshops, supplements, books, and systems promising relief. Some may help, but the deeper question remains: can anything truly guide us through the darkness we face, now or in the future? And does the cost to access it always rely on a credit card swipe, and finally getting the ingredients right. Is it up to us to just muscle on through it? Or can we actually experience a real, living, and interactive relationship with God that offers an illuminated pathway?
My response is simple: remain open to the possibility that God has provided a solution, a pathway. A place to begin is by reading the Gospel of John and honestly asking God for the illuminated path that Christ describes. The answer may or may not come immediately, but remain attentive in the days and weeks that follow. Pay attention to unexpected invitations, relationships, coincidences, phrases, pictures, dreams, or moments of clarity you may have previously overlooked.
My work reflects the journey of God’s illumination, in the form of concepts, technology, materials, art, and craftsmanship. I take what is abstract and without meaning, then shape it to create a piece that reflects the narratives and metaphors that I’ve personally experienced, things that can happen to anyone who is looking for a pathway, like the one in John 8:12.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
